Taylor’s Custom Street Rods is owned and operated by Tim and Tammy Taylor. For years we have built and restored custom cars of our own. After several years of showing our custom work at car shows, an ever growing number of people asked about having us build a car for them. From this encouragement, Tim started building and selling custom rods as a side business.
In 1997, he found a local speed shop going out of business and decided to move the operation from his backyard garage to a professional facility. The Taylors jumped headfirst into full time restoration of classic muscle cars and selling performance parts and accessories.
During this time Tim decided to build his own custom street rod. After shopping the fiberglass body market in 1998, Tim bought a 34 Chevy coupe from Downs Manufacturing. During the build of this dream car, Tim found the demand for custom street rods was surpassing the current interest in muscle cars.
In order to capitalize on this, the Taylors contacted Jim Downs of Downs Manufacturing and became a dealer for their line of automotive bodies. Several of these bodies were built into custom rods. After Jim Downs retired, the Taylors began searching for a more modern “high tech” street rod and found Oze Rod Shop. Tim was impressed with the construction strength and the glove fit of the Oze car and signed up as a dealer. These cars have become a big hit in the custom street rod market.
